Introduction:1

There are a lot of people who come to my mind when someone says the word

athlete. Like Neeraj Chopra, Milkha Singh, Pele. However, someone who is globally

famous and my all-time favorite is no other than Usain Bolt. Usain Bolt is a retired

Jamaican sprinter and is approximately around 35 years of age. He is robust,

renowned and a gifted athlete.

I know about him because he is widely considered to be the greatest sprinter of all

times and therefore everyone knows about him and wish to run like him. He is also

popularly known as OJ, CD and OLY. If we talk about his achievements then he has

many feathers to his cap.

Usain Bolt is the world record holder in 100, 200 and 400 meters relay. He has won

many medals in his journey of running and also at the Olympics. He was a world

champion for eleven times and these accomplishments are classic and definitely

worthy of praise and admiration.

Certain things about Bolt, not only make him popular but also a role model to the

budding sprinters. He is known to run at the stunning speed in spite of many leg

injuries. He was born in a poor family but his passions and potentials to run made

him a start worldwide. He also loves to play cricket and football. Usain is a champion

and I am his fan.

Introduction:6

There are so many athletes in this world who are globally admired. But for me, there’s one particular athlete who has given me goosebumps with his speed.
He is none other than Milkha Singh – the man who flew! Also known as The Flying Sikh, he was an Indian track and field sprinter who was introduced to the sport while serving in the Indian Army.
I know him because when I was a student, I got a chance to meet him in person. After talking to him, I was anxious to know more about his larger-than-life personality. I saw in movie “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag”, read his autobiography The Race of My Life… In short, I’ve done everything I could do to find how he became most decorated Indian athlete.
Milkha Singh is the only athlete to win gold at 400 metres race at the Asian Games as well as the Commonwealth Games. He also won gold medals in the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games. He represented India in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome and the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Furthermore, His finishing time in the 1960 Olympics 400m final race set a national record that stood for 40 years.
Simply put he was the first Indian athletics superhero who had emerged on the scene at a time when such a star coming out of India was deemed impossible. Milkha Singh fired world imagination and successfully placed Indian athletics on the world map without the slightest of backing from the establishment.
When somebody perform miracles, popularity eventually follow! This is what happened with Mr Singh… He was awarded the Padma shri in recognition of his legendary sporting achievements.
In the end, unfortunately he is no more with us but his legacy will remain forever.

Introduction:7

Being a sports enthusiast, I am a big fan of those sportspeople who show athleticism in their game.

Who he/she is?

Although I know many athletes, my favourite is the Indian Cricket team’s erstwhile(former) captain Mr Mohinder Singh Dhoni.

How do you know him/her?

I came to know him when he had led India to victory in a World Cup T20 match against Bangladesh. India was about to lose that match. However, MS Dhoni had an altogether different plan.

He ran like a bullet that day and was instrumental in running out one Bangladeshi batsman. Due to his athleticism, India managed to win that match by one run.

What has he/she achieved?

MS Dhoni’s arrival brought a paradigm shift in India cricket. Before his arrival, a handful of players used to be fit. The central focus of the players was not on fitness, and many of them were poor athletes.

But once MS Dhoni became the captain of the Indian Cricket Team, everything changed. Players started taking practice seriously, and many of them started hitting the gym in the wee hours.

Under Ms Dhoni’s aegis, India won one ODI world cup, one t20 world cup and one champion’s trophy. Apart from this, India became the number one test team.

And explain why he/she is famous?

He is famous for his two attributes. The first one is his athleticism and agility. Now he is 40 years old, but he runs as if he is in his early 20’s.

Apart from this, he tends to remain calm in adverse situations. Due to this reason, the cricket fraternity calls him “Captain Cool”.
