Describe an occasion when you were not allowed to use your mobile phone

When was it?

Where was it?

Why you were not allowed to use your mobile phone?

How you felt about it?

Introduction :1

This happened with me, a year ago (you may change this time). It happened in my

city. We had visitors at home and they wanted to see a well-known place in my city.

It was a unique place of worship called the EME temple. Although, its name is a

temple it has symbols of all religions.

We had to submit our mobile phones at the entrance along with our identity cards.

We were given a token with the help of which we had to collect our phones when

we return. The place of sightseeing was inside the military area and due to this

reason mobile phone was not allowed inside.

I felt very uncomfortable without my phone at first and almost decided to drop the

idea of going inside. However, I also understand that due to security reasons phone

cannot be taken inside. The serene and beautiful atmosphere of the place made me

instantly forget about my phone. I felt calm and relaxed. It was rejuvenating to

spend time in a peaceful place without the phone which is most of the time

disturbing.

The place is worth seeing and keeping the phone aside for an hour to see this unique

place was justified. I have no regrets that I could not use my phone as I got to visit

the major tourist attraction. I feel I should learn to keep aside my phone for an hour

daily. It was a memorable and a learning experience for me.

Introduction :2

Well, in this contemporary era, mobile phones have become part and parcel of our life. More than a luxury these days, it is a necessity to stay connected with our near and dear ones(kith and kin). Moreover, we are so addicted and dependent on this device that we can’t even imagine our life without it for a single moment. However, uses of mobile phones are prohibited at a myriad of places, like hospitals, temples, in flights, and while driving. Besides, a similar thing happened to me a couple of months ago, when I had to visit a bank and was not allowed to use my cellphone.

We are so habitual to check our mobiles every now and then for everything, like WhatsApp messages or emails, that if we are asked o stay away from it, then certainly we feel as if we are standing on a death’s door.

Where was it? and When was it?

Actually, due to some financial transactions related to my education loan, I had to visit one of the bank’s branches in my city. Just like any other day, the bank was overcrowded. Since I was aware that mobile phones were restricted inside the bank, I turned my phone into silent mode. And being a responsible citizen, I lined up in the queue and waited for my turn patiently.

When my turn came, I presented all the documents to the bank cashier. However, to my surprise, the check leaf was missing from the papers. That time I realized that accidentally I would have left it at home. Therefore, I took out my mobile and started to make a call to my father.

Why you were not allowed?

Nevertheless, I was stopped by a security guard, to not make any calls from inside the building due to security reasons. At first, I was in a dilemma as I couldn’t understand what to do, so I requested him to let me make a call so that someone from my home can get the chequebook for me.

What did you want to do with your cell phone?

But he added an insult to injury by saying that if he would allow me, then everyone could start demanding it. On the one hand, I began to have blues if I moved from the line, then I must wait in the queue again for my turn to come while on the other hand, he was also reasonable. Since I had no option, with a heavy heart, I went outside the bank and called my dad to get the chequebook.

Conclusion :

Indeed, I was frustrated to the core by the strict rule, but I also do realize how significant it is for the security system. Additionally, from that day onwards, I am extremely cautious about my documents as I learned a good lesson to be attentive and careful.

Introduction :4

There is no denying this conviction that cellular phones have become an integral part of our lives in this contemporary era. People have developed this feeling that being connected is a must-have. Moreover, our mobile phone addiction levels have reached a tipping point.

However, `the usage of mobile phones is restricted at numerous places, like medical institutions, religious places, libraries and air travel.

Where was it?, and When was it?

Likewise, I went through a similar situation two months ago, when I visited a bank, and the concerned authorities did not allow me to use my mobile phone.

Although I had not had any plan to go to the bank, I went there when I realized that I forgot to collect my chequebook.

I immediately rushed to do bank, leaving my other works pending. Since using the phone is risky while driving, I decided to make calls to my clients from the bank while waiting in the queue.

But to my dismay, the bank manager did not allow me to use my phone.

Why you were not allowed?

The banks usually have too much cash at their disposal, due to this reason, they are more vulnerable to robbery and other criminal activities. And, for most crimes offenders utilize the services of cell phones. Hence to safeguard the cash, banks do not allow the usage of mobiles phones.

How did you feel about it?

I wanted my phone to inform my clients. I wished to communicate that I would contact them later due to my sudden visit to the bank.

Since I was unable to pick the calls from the clients, I had tremendous stress.

Introduction :5

In this contemporary epoch, mobile phones have become an integral part of our lives. And our life becomes boring and challenging when we do not get permission to use them.

I have gone through numerous situations when I am unable to use my mobile phone. One such occasion came into my life recently.

Where was it?, and When was it?

Two months back our college took us to the nearby hill station. It was an excursion trip, and the primary purpose was to make the students feel good post lockdown.

During that trip, our teacher did not allow the students to use their mobile phones.

Why you were not allowed?

The teacher did not permit us for a reason. Just after reaching the hill station one of the students lost his mobile phone. His phone was an expensive one.

The teacher in consultation with the principal had taken the mobile phone of all the students and put them inside a box on the bus.

The teacher did not want other students to lose their mobile phones. That is why she took that decision.

How did you feel about it?

Initially, I was upset because I wanted to capture the memorable moments with my friends through the camera of my mobile.

However, after some time, our principal gave her DSLR camera to us to click pictures. Hence we did not feel the need to use our mobile phones.

Moreover, we had no distractions, and we enjoyed the trip to the full extent.

Thus, the restriction on the usage of mobile phones was a blessing in disguise for me.

Introduction :6

Mobile phones have become a significant portion of our lives. In today’s generation, everyone including the children owns a mobile phone or a tablet device. Life has become almost incomplete without technology. I still remember a time where I was not allowed to use a mobile phone the whole day which made me realise how dependent we are on mobile phones.

One day my friends and I planned to go to the art museum as our school was planning to have an art exhibition. We were all ready to leave. I was extremely excited to see the masterpieces at the exhibition and click pictures with my mobile phone. When we were entering the museum, there was a notice board with some rules and regulations written on it. One of the rules declares “No mobiles phones, cameras and other electronic devices are allowed inside the museum.

Why were You Not Allowed?

To protect copyright pictures, people were not allowed to take photographs of the masterpieces inside the museum. It was quite alarming and disappointing for me since I was excited to take pictures and show them to my family. My friends and I were forced to deposit the mobile phones before entering the museum. Later we had a good quality time in the museum and enjoyed acknowledging the facts which might not be possible if we had our mobile phones with us. We would be busy taking the pictures all day in the museum.

What did You Want to Do with Your Mobile Phone?

I wanted to click pictures of the art pieces in the museum and show them to my family, specifically my grandmother who is very fond of historical art and sculptures. She is too old to visit the museum so I thought of showing her the photos and videos of the museums. I also wanted to take photos with my friends collecting all the memories we had that day. But later I realised, we created the most memorable moments with each other without being captured. Sometimes it’s good to avoid phones and spend time with friends and family.

Introduction :7

Well, I must say these days mobile phones have become a portion and branch of our lives, and most people find it quite problematic when they are avoided using them. It has become a common necessity for all human beings.  I would like to share one of my such experiences when I was restricted from using my mobile phone, and this incident took place a few months ago.

I remember once in college, I was using my mobile phone in class to show my friend a video. Suddenly, the volume of the video raised and our teacher noticed. Mobile phones were not allowed inside a class. I got quite scared getting caught. My teacher took my mobile phone and didn’t give me the whole day. I felt really bad and wondered what to do till the end of the day without a mobile phone.

Why were You Not Allowed?

Our college is very strict with rules and regulations. Mobile phones were allowed inside the premises but strictly prohibited inside the classes. All the students were advised to either switch off the phones or leave them outside the class. I was quite not aware of the strict rules of not using the phone inside the class. I was curious to share a video with my friend. So, when our teacher was busy doing her work I took my mobile phone and started playing the video. Unfortunately, the volume increased and I was caught by the teacher.

What did You Want to Do with Your Cell Phone?

Well, at lunchtime we all friends used to play ludo online after having our lunch. We used to enjoy playing it inside the class with all our group members. The day when my phone got confiscated, I felt extremely lonely. All my friends were busy playing together with their mobile phones and I was left behind without a phone. Later, I took a round of the college and had a good time admiring the nature and the surroundings of our college which I didn’t notice before. We all are so busy in our lives and mobile phones that we have forgotten the present and the important aspects around us.

Introduction :8

In this day and time life without smartphones is unimaginable as all are very much attached to their phones that these have become an extension of all. But, today, I would like to talk about a time when I was not allowed to use my mobile phone.

It was about a couple of years ago, It was a time when I went to give my competitive exam. Due to the traffic problem, I reached the center just on time and I went to the class directly and sat according to the roll no. Without reading instructions. When I reached there, the teacher had gone somewhere. She got back to the class after 5 min. With question papers.

she asked the class that isn’t there anyone who has a mobile? Suddenly after hearing this question, I told to the teacher that I have a mobile. The teacher became a little bit angry because taking off the mobile outside from the class was given in instruction paper. I felt ashamed and handed the mobile to the teacher.

I felt so odd to haven’t had my mobile with me. I became sad after knowing that I have to keep my mobile far from me till the exam ends which took a time of 3 hours. It was so difficult for me to spend this huge time without a mobile.

I completed my exam within 2 hours then I asked the teacher about my cell phone but she told me you will get your mobile phone after the exam. I needed my mobile because I wanted to tell the location of the exam center to my parents But the exam rules were so strict so I couldn’t do anything. These 3 hours seemed like more than a century for me. I spent 3 hours sadly and got my mobile. Then I called my parents and realize that living without a mobile phone does not remain possible nowadays.

So this was the situation when I was not allowed to use my cell phone.

Follow up Questions

  1. What could be some situations when we ideally should not use our phone?

Ideally, we should only use our phone when we wish to make or receive calls

or messages. However, we end up using it all the time. We should not be

using our phone when we are eating our meals, praying, talking to our dear

ones and also when we are driving.

  1. Why do you think it is difficult for most people to do without their phone?

Most of us are addicted to our phones because apart from the function of

making and receiving calls the phone has the entire world in it. For example:

games, social media, messaging applications, shopping applications, online

good delivery and what not. Due to these reasons a lot of people cannot put

away their phones.

  1. Do you think that life was better without a smart phone or it is better with

it?

This is a tough one to decide. I will say yes and no both. Both the situations

had their good and bad points. Life without the smart phone was slow and

we felt cut off from the world. When we have smart phones we are still cut

off but we cannot ignore the advantages that it has.

  1. At what age should children be given smart phones?

In my opinion children should not be given smart phones. Smart phones are

not for children. We should let them develop their own smartness until they

grow up and not make them dependent by giving them the phone.

  1. According to you what are some useful applications in your phone?

Some applications in my phone which I find useful are shopping applications.

These applications have helped us a lot to order things online especially

during the pandemic. The messaging applications are also useful because

they allow us to be in touch with our friends and family. Applications which

provide entertainment like movies and web series are also useful according

to me but we should be cautious and not get addicted to them.
